John Butt is the only western graduate of Dar-ul-Uloom Deoband and has been living and travelling in Pakistan and Afghanistan for more than forty years.
Prior to establishing PACT Radio in 1984, John Butt worked for Al-Risala monthly, an Urdu-English monthly journal based in New Delhi that is devoted to producing Islamic literature in a modern idiom, the Frontier Post, a national Pakistani English daily based in Peshawar and with the BBC World Service, where he was founding editor of ground-breaking radio soap operas in Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
In 2010 John Butt founded Jamiyat'al-Uloom'al-Islamiya, the first Islamic University of Afghanistan, based in Jalalabad.

- Deputy HeadNaveed YousafzaiA graduate of Peshawar University, Naveed Akbar Shah mastered in Journalism and Mass Communication at Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan.
Naveed was Programme Manager at Campus Radio, Gomal University, establishing Campus Radio FM 104.6, equipping the production studio and training students in broadcast journalism.
Having chosen to focus on radio journalism, Naveed began an internship at the Media Training and Research Centre at the University of Peshawar, where he came into contact with PACT Radio.
Naveed worked first as PACT's Zonal Coordinator in Dera Ismail Khan. In 2008 he was appointed Deputy Head of PACT Radio. He is also the Editor-in-chief of PACT's Borderline magazine, launched in 2011.
