A village in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa hit by the flood Flooding in north-west Pakistan
Peshawar, 12 August 2010: Heavy flooding caused by monsoon rains has affected an estimated 14 million Pakistanis. At least 1,600 people have died and many more are still missing. The floods have destroyed homes and washed away vital grain, rice, tobacco and sugarcane harvests. Of those affected by the floods, about three million are estimated to be in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly the North-West Frontier Province). PACT Radio producer and chief reporter, Umar Daraz, spoke to some of those caught in the disaster. The following is an extract from a PACT Radio broadcast:
Students attend a graduation ceremony at Najm'al-Madaris madrassah Militants destroy PACT media centre
Jalalabad, 11 July 2010: Armed militants attacked the media centre of PACT Radio in Najm'al-Madaris, a historic madrassah near Jalalabad in eastern Afghanistan, last night and burnt the media centre down, along with part of the madrassah. They tied the guards. By the time the fire brigade arrived, the media centre had been burnt to ashes.
